A Course in Finite Group Representation Theory
《A Course in Finite Group Representation Theory》 · 第 88 页 · Section 3.2「Finite and Algebraic Field Extensions」,Definition 4
Given a field extension $K\subset L$, an element $\alpha\in L$ is called algebraic over $K$ if it satisfies an algebraic equation over $K$, i.e., an equation $\alpha^n+c_1\alpha^{n-1}+\cdots+c_n=0$ with coefficients $c_1,\ldots,c_n\in K$. This means that the kernel of the substitution homomorphism $\varphi:K[X]\to L$, $g\mapsto g(\alpha)$, is nontrivial. Otherwise, $\alpha$ is called transcendental over $K$.
